DRC Gold: Kibali Accounts for 88% of Industrial Production in First Half of 2026
Kibali Gold Mine continued to dominate the Democratic Republic of Congo’s industrial gold sector in the first half of 2026, accounting for 88% of the country’s recorded industrial gold production, according to mining statistics.
The mine, located in Haut-Uele Province, produced the overwhelming majority of industrial gold during the six-month period, maintaining its position as the DRC’s leading industrial gold producer.
Kibali’s dominance is not new. In 2025, the operation accounted for almost the entire country’s industrial gold output, producing about 673,000 ounces during the year.
The mine is jointly owned by Barrick Mining and AngloGold Ashanti, with each holding a 45% interest, while the remaining 10% is held by the Congolese state through SOKIMO.
The mine’s continued strong performance is particularly significant given its strategic importance to the DRC’s gold industry.
Kibali is one of Africa’s largest gold operations and has established itself as the country’s principal source of industrially produced gold.
The latest figures also highlight the limited contribution of other industrial gold producers in the DRC.
Earlier mining statistics showed Kibali accounting for 99.5% of industrial gold production in the first quarter of 2025, while smaller producers such as MCCR, Kimia Mining Investment and Sokomo contributed only marginal volumes.
Barrick has also outlined a new 10-year plan for Kibali, following a recent increase in production and continued efforts to replace reserves.
The company says the operation remains on track to meet its 2026 production guidance.
The mine’s position underscores the importance of Kibali to the DRC’s formal gold sector and its broader mining economy, while highlighting the highly concentrated nature of industrial gold production in the country.
